Buy Organic Food
There are five main benefits of organic food. Organic food refers to food that has not been genetically modified, or grown using chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Organic food is also known as eco-friendly due to the fact that it uses plants instead of chemicals for fertilizer during cultivation.
Organic livestock are fed with natural feed and are not given any chemical medicine. The animals raised in the organic pasture are fed with insects, fruits, grasses or any other natural food available on land enabling them to naturally produce more meat than non-organic meat.
5 Main Benefits of Organic Food
- Organic products minimize exposure to chemicals like pesticides, herbicides and also chemicals used in growth promotion. And while many of these chemicals are toxics, they are safe when used in small quantities.
However, many studies have proven that continuous use of these chemicals lead to health effects like increased risk of diseases like diabetes, cancer, asthma etc., and metabolic syndrome. Many of these chemicals have cadmium, a type one carcinogen which when exposed to humans can lead to cancer among other diseases.
- Organic food helps us avoid genetically engineered food.
Over 90% of genetically engineered crops in America are engineered to survive a chemical called glyfocel, a harmful carcinogen as stated by the WHO.
- Helps us avoid hormones and antibiotics. Organic animals are not fed using antibiotics and hormones which causes health problems for humans such as cancers, obesity and reproductive disorders. There also have been reports of altered hormonal systems in cows developing diseases like ovaries getting pushed to the testicles resulting in male calves.
- Organic farming could reduce greenhouse emissions, reducing the emission of CO₂ which is one of the major causes for global warming.
- Organic plants have been found to have more nutrients value than conventional crops, in addition to that they might involve more levels of antioxidants due to the growing methods.
Bottom Line
Organic farming allows for bio-diversity. Soil organisms play their part, wildlife play their part, nature will keep coming back.
If we avoid doing harm to other living things and it’s surrounding, this will lead us to the next step in being a responsible human race with proper environment management.
